Since when do we do the list of the Olympic winners by number of medals? Is it really a bronze medal the same as a gold one? If you NEED to be the winner, yes………
Alternatively, we could also rank by: - "Medal density": No. of medals (total or gold, up to you) divided by population size; - "Beat-the-odds index": No. of medals (again up to you) divided by GDP; - etc etc etc etc.
... The best part is that they would all be "facts".
If US were to somehow overtake China in the no. of good medals, I am quite sure the Chinese would do the same in their presentation of the medal tally.
